GLOBAL ISSUES INTERNSHIP: HISPANIOLA 2013 JUNE 1 - JUNE 30, 2013 COST: $3000 PER STUDENT
Internship Description Our mission begins with a five day conference in New Haven, CT where we learn from experts in the field of world missions as they educate us on issues impacting the Church globally. After the conference we travel to the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. We will join a team of nine Dominican InterVarsity students who will be with us for the entire mission trip. We will spend three days in the capital living with host families, getting acclimated to the culture and learning from our Dominican brothers and sisters how to do campus ministry at their 130,000 student university! We will travel together to La Romana in the far east of the country to work with a ministry reaching out to Haitians who work in the sugar cane industry. Our goal while in La Romana is to expose both the American and Dominican students to the harsh conditions Haitians are enduring, hoping encourage each to action in the future. We will finish our mission back in the capital implementing what we experienced in the Haitian community on the university, particularly trying to reach Haitian students. The Dominicans we are partnering with have expressed a passion to see the relationships between Haitians and Dominicans improved in light of Christ's call to unity in the body. Our mission will end with a three day retreat in the mountains. Once back in the US, we will plan how to integrate this experience on your campus.
